Everything you need to start international trade — from obtaining an import/export code to customs clearance through WeBOC and Pakistan Single Window.

International trade offers tremendous growth opportunities for Pakistani businesses. However, navigating the regulatory framework requires proper registrations and understanding of customs procedures. Whether you are importing raw materials or exporting finished goods, a systematic approach to licensing and compliance saves time and money.

Prerequisites for International Trade

Before you can import or export, you need: a registered business entity (company, sole proprietorship, or partnership), an NTN from FBR, a bank account with a commercial bank authorized for foreign exchange transactions, and Sales Tax Registration (STRN) if dealing in taxable goods. These are the foundational requirements.

WeBOC Registration

WeBOC (Web-Based One Customs) is Pakistan Customs' electronic clearance system. All importers and exporters must register on WeBOC to file goods declarations (GDs). Registration requires your NTN, STRN, CNIC, company documents, and bank certificate. A unique User ID is assigned for filing customs documents electronically.

Pakistan Single Window (PSW)

PSW integrates 70+ government agencies into one platform for trade-related permits, licenses, and certificates. Registration on PSW is mandatory for cross-border trade. Through PSW, you can obtain import permits, phytosanitary certificates, drug regulatory approvals, and other clearances without visiting multiple agencies. The system has dramatically reduced trade processing times.

TDAP & Export Promotion

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) supports exporters through market research, trade delegations, exhibitions, and buyer-seller meetings. TDAP registration provides access to export incentive schemes, subsidized participation in international trade fairs, and government export financing programs offered through commercial banks.

Customs Duties & Regulatory Duties

Import duties in Pakistan include customs duty (0-20% depending on HS code), additional customs duty, regulatory duty (on specific items), sales tax (18% standard), income tax (advance tax), and sometimes anti-dumping duties. Understanding the applicable duties for your products is essential for accurate cost calculations and pricing.
